Welcome to my resource website for writers.

Since becoming a full-time writer in 2004, I’ve been in contact with thousands of budding, developing and jobbing writers. Whether it’s been  in my capacity as a member of a couple of writers’ groups, or when I tutored for over ten years for a leading distance learning course provider, or as a workshop facilitator for writers’ festivals, conferences and weekend course providers. I’ve made a lot of friends too. And, of course, there are those who connected with me via Twitter (@simonwhaley) and Facebook.

The writing community is a friendly one. We all help each other. Other writers have shared their knowledge with me over the years, and this website is my way of sharing what I’ve learned with you.

So what do I write? Words. 😉 (Sorry. It was there. I had to take it.)

I write both non-fiction and fiction. As an author I’ve written over a dozen non-fiction books, including the bestselling One Hundred Ways For A Dog To Train Its Human, published in 2003 by Hodder and Stoughton, Puppytalk for Hodder Childrens Books, Fundraising For A Community Project for How To Books, and three books for the five million-copy selling Bluffers Guides series.

I also write magazine articles, primarily British travel and walking features for publications such as Country Walking, BBC Countryfile, The People’s Friend, The Countryman and Outdoor Photography. My features have also appeared in The Simple Things, The Daily Express, The Observer, Cheshire Life, Discover Britain and Best of British.

I have a regular column in Writing Magazine (The Business of Writing), and my features for writers have also been published in Writers’ Forum and Writers’ Journal (USA), and over the years I’ve contributed to other periodicals for writers, including The New Writer and Writers’ Wheel.

My fiction has been printed in many of the UK’s women’s magazines, including Woman’s Weekly Fiction Special, Take a Break, Take a Break’s Fiction Feast, The Weekly News, and The People’s Friend, as well as Ireland’s Own in … er … Ireland, and That’s Life Fast Fiction (Australia), and some can be downloaded directly from the Alfie Dog website. Kindle users can buy a small collection of of my published and competition winning stories here: Ten Teatime Tales.
