Whether you write fiction or non-fiction, the landscape around us influences our work, both directly and indirectly. But do we really notice it? This course will show you how to spot detail in the landscape and then bring it to life in your writing. Discover how to turn any interaction with the landscape into a self-contained piece… and be prepared to stretch your legs at some point, because if the weather is good we may go for a wander.

Course Breakdown

There are eight workshops on this course, which will take place over two days (4 on 25th July, and 4 on 26th July). This enables writers to tackle another course for the remaining two days of the Writers’ Holiday. (See website for full details: http://www.writersholiday.net/conferencecourses.htm)

Each workshop is an hour in length, and we’ll explore ways in which to focus on the details in the landscape, draw upon the sights, smells, and sounds of the landscape, and turn even the most mundane outdoor experience into a self-contained piece of writing.

We may even go for a short wander in the locality to experience the landscape and inspire us to write something.

Whether you enjoy nature writing, non-fiction writing, biography, memoir, or want to bring more of the landscape into your fiction writing, this course will open your eyes to your surroundings.

Cost

The cost of the entire week (accommodation, food, and TWO courses (not just this one) and several evening talk, and a performance by the Cwmbach Male Voice choir is £499.
